Château La Lagune is a Troisième Grand Cru Classé in the Haut-Médoc. The terroir centres on a terrace of alluvial gravel parallel bordering the Gironde. It takes its name from a village was built here in 1525. In the 1580s a tenant farm was built in its place, eventually becoming the large estate seen today.
The château was built between 1730 and 1734. The Frey family took over in 2000 and the estate is run by Caroline Frey, who also overseas Jaboulet, also owned by the Freys. Oenologist Isabel Davin has been in charge since 2000, with Michel Rolland consulting. The 110 hectares are planted to 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot and 10 % Petit Verdot. There is a second wine, Moulin de la Lagune. The estate has just completed conversion to biodynamics.
